Gbarnga, Bong County – The CB Dunbar Hospital in Gbarnga, Bong County which was shut down temporally due to the lack of power is now up and running, after receiving a 250KVA Generator from the Ministry of Health.
“The hospital was shut down for two days, but before our closure, we informed Phebe about our closure and arranged with them to make some of their doctors available, so that if we needed to do surgeries”
“We would go to Phebe, so it was not a heartfelt closure we did, but we were constrained under the circumstances to operate. Since last week Wednesday we have been operating fully,” Dr. Obed Dolo, of C B Dunbar Hospital told FrontPageAfrica.
Last week FPA reported that the hospital shut down as consequence of the lack of power.
According to Dr. Dolo, in a recent telephone conversation, the only Doctor at the Maternal Health facility in Bong County, the power crisis they were experiencing at the hospital was due to the breakdown of the only generator available at the hospital.
Dr. Dolo said the Ministry of Health sent an assessment team and subsequently, provided a 250KVA generator, which he understands, is to fill in the gap until the Ministry can procure generator for the hospital.
He further said the old generator is a 50KVA generator and due to the work load, there was a need to step the number to about 80KVA generator to run the entire Hospital.
When quizzed about the 250KVA generator recently given by the Ministry of Health, Dr. Dolo replied:
“The issue with the 250KVA is that the fuel consumption is our concern, because it uses a lot of fuel than what we have been used to, so we still run the old generator for some time and turn it off and put on the 250KVA for some hours to carry on operations.”
On whether the Ministry is providing fuel for the running of the generator, he said the ministry does not provide the County Health system fuel directly, but supports them, in order to buy fuel for their generator.
Dr. Dolo thanked the Media for highlighting the issue that has brought some relief to the hospital and the citizens.
“We appreciate the media for trying to put light on the problems that vital institution has and when the issue is in the public domain and everybody is aware then they try to brainstorm as to how to move things forward”, he said.
