Monrovia – The Cameroonian Association of Liberia (CAL) has identified with the Liberia School of the Blind with a donation of assorted items of mattresses, bags of rice, dust beans, vegetable oil, sardines and clothing.
The donation, which happened in Unification Day, was done in partnership with Saar Insurance, Hysaa (waste company) and Afriland First Bank.
Presenting the relief items to the Liberia School of the Blind in Mango Town, the President of the Cameroonian Association in Liberia, William E.A. Ekerum, said it gives them great joy to celebrate with the school of the blind on Unification Day.
The Liberian school of the blind was established in 1977 to meet the needs of persons with visual disabilities. Over the years, the school has graduated hundreds of students who are making positive impact in both the public and private sectors.
According to Ekerum, the school of the blind has always held a special an indelible spot in the heart of the organization.
“Couple with your so many activities that things are moving in the right way, we stood at the distance and admired the kind of gift that God has given you.
For this reason after taking a tour of this center, we decided to beg some other partners to help us to identify ourselves with you; and these partners, after reading our intention, decided to help us,” the CAL President said.
He said with the help of their partners they were able to rid the compound of mosquitoes. He said Cameroon also has its own Unification Day which is celebrated on May 20.
“To our dear administration, our dear friends, children of the school of the blind, we are here to share with you the little we have and it is our pleasure to share this moment of Unification of the Republic of Liberia with you in a grand style. Long live the republic of Liberia, long live the Republic of Cameroon and long live the school of the blind.”
The Cameroonian Association in Liberia was established in 2005 but Ekerum said it has been their desire to give back to the people of Liberia.
Receiving the relief items on behalf of the school, the principal of the school of the blind, Jackson Huah thanked CAL and their partners for the kind gesture.
He added that the cleaning of the school compound before Unification Day, shows the love and the brotherliness they have come to exemplify.
“As we celebrate the Unification Day of Liberia, it is important to emphasize that what you have done for the school will go in a long way in carrying the message that despite our needs have been met by the government, there are still needs that one can cater for.
It is very important to give thanks and appreciation to the embassy of Cameroon, the Cameroonian Association in Liberia and their partners that have identified making this great donation to our school”, principal Huah said.
“I want to make a special appeal to you that Liberia School of the blind will be a long time partner with your organization. As you can see, you have put smiles on the faces of these young ones whose education is a great tax that the government of Liberia and every partner need to cater for; they will leave here today with the song in their hearts and the joy that you have put on their faces.”
