Calm Returns to Sime Darby Plantation – Alleged Missing Man Resurfaces

Bomi County – A protest which took place last week due to the   alleged missing of a man on the plantation of the company has been found,  Bomi Superintendent  said.

Mark Gibson was arrested by the company’s security after he and others were accused of stealing palm from the plantation.

Gibson and others have a palm processing mill, but they do not have any plantation.

He was arrested but reportedly escaped and went into unknown place. 

This led to a protest by citizens at the plantation who demanded that the living body be brought. After few days, he was seen.

At the ceremony last week at the plantation, the Superintendent of Bomi County, Samuel Brown called on the citizens to be patient as the company was there to do business.

He commended the company for suspending the security that was said to have carried on the arrest of Gibson.

Mr. Brown said, such protest was not healthy and called on the citizens to use the appropriate means to resolve problems rather than embarking on protest.

Police in Monrovia, the capital confirmed that Gibson was found and in good health.

This is not the first time for citizens of embark on strike in the planation over the disappearance of a citizen.

It can be recalled that sometime ago, a lady who had gone to the plantation clinic for treatment could not be seen for days at the plantation.

That led to a protest in which part of the plantation was put on fire by the citizens.

After few days, she was seen and later taken to the Police for questioning. She told the Police at the time that she went to visit a friend at a nearby village.

Some citizens this reporter spoke to said it was unfortunate that people would not investigate before accusing the company.

“This kind of action is not good at all.”

“These people are investing here and there is a need for our people to appreciate their work. We hope that this sort of thing will not happen anymore,” Mr. Sekou Sambulah, a resident in Bomi said.
