Sacramento, California — The California State Assembly has formally recognized Liberian human rights advocate Adama Kiatamba Dempster for his exceptional contributions to global human rights, peacebuilding, and justice.
During an official floor session held April 27, 2026, at the California State Capitol, lawmakers honored Dempster for more than 18 years of dedicated service in promoting transitional justice, strengthening democratic institutions, and advancing accountability in Liberia and internationally.
The recognition followed the recommendation of Dr. Jamila Land, a prominent advocate for criminal justice reform and community empowerment.
Dempster, who serves as National Secretary General and Co-Founder of the Civil Society Human Rights Advocacy Platform of Liberia, has played a leading role in championing marginalized communities and promoting sustainable peace.
While in California, Dempster also participated in the 34th Annual Africa Peace Award Dinner hosted by the Center for African Peace and Conflict Resolution at California State University, Sacramento, where Joseph Nyuma Boakai was honored.
Speaking during the ceremony, Dempster described the recognition as a tribute to the broader struggle for justice.
“This honor represents not just my work, but the collective struggle and resilience of those who continue to fight for justice and accountability. It is a reminder that our efforts must remain steadfast in building a more just and peaceful world.”
The event drew community leaders, policymakers, and members of the Liberian diaspora, underscoring the growing international influence of Liberian leadership in peacebuilding and human rights advocacy.
The recognition was also acknowledged by the California Legislative Black Caucus, further highlighting the significance of global partnerships in promoting justice, equity, and human dignity.
