Monrovia – Barrack Young Controllers II (BYC II) beat Kawkab Athletic Club of Marrakech 2-0 on Sunday in a second leg first round 2016 CAF Confederation Cup match but lost 3-2 on aggregate. BYC needed a 4-0 win to book a second round tie with Mouloudia Club d’Oran of Algeria in the second round or win by a three goal margin to take the match to post match penalties.
The Moroccans, who won the first leg 3-0 on March 12 in Marrakech, made their first attempt in the 10th minute when striker Soufiane Alloudi kicked the ball over the cross bar. Randy Dukuly had BYC first attempt in the 15th minute when goalkeeper and Captain Mohammed Ozouka poorly kicked a ball but Dukuly also poorly kicked it to the delight of Ozouka.
BYC were awarded a 26th minute penalty when striker Varney Dukuly was tripped in the box but Sam Jackson was denied by Ozouka in the 28th minute. BYC came close to scoring in the 33rd minute when Jackson gave a splendid pass to Dukuly but Ozouka was able to prevent any danger. The Go Blue Boys were handed an 88th penalty which was converted by Prince Kennedy to make it two-zero. Head coach Emmanuel Kaykay paid homage to his players for the win despite their inability to qualify.
“We won against our opponents but such win is not enough for us to advance to the next round of the competition. I just want to bless God for the victory because it will help to keep our heads high up and keep Liberia up also,” he said. Kawkab coach Hassan Banabicha described their qualification as a step forward. “I think we played against good and young team but in Morocco we won 3-0 and now we lost 2-0 and I think the team is good but our qualification is very necessary and I say thank you to the Liberian people for their hospitality,” said Banabicha.
