Buchanan, Grand Bassa County – Representative Matthew Joe on Sunday, February 18, 2018 held a program to appreciate his constituents for electing him as their representative at the 54th Legislature.
The new Buchanan district lawmaker replaced Gabriel Smith, who held the seat for two terms since 2005.
Joe was elected on the ticket of the now ruling Coalition for Democratic Change after claiming 13, 318 votes that amounted to 54.6% of the total votes counted.
At the thanksgiving program held under the theme” Unity Brings Development” at the Unification Pavilion on the Fairgrounds in Buchanan, Representative Joe said “leadership comes from God and God was the one who spoke to the people to elect him on October 10, 2017”.
“I wasn’t thinking of being a representative today but I am a representative because God spoke to you to vote for me during the election,” he said.
“My people, you stood under the sun without complaining just because you needed change that will bring development to you, if I don’t thank you, I will be very ungrateful.”
He noted that because of unity the county is about to get better under his leadership.
“I have come to say to you, I am going to deliver to you the best of my ability, my promise made during the campaign won’t be a waste as you have been complaining of in the past years,” he said.
“Few months ago we made lots of promises before we were elected; we have purchased a student bus and it is currently in Monrovia and will be dedicated two weeks from now.”
He continued: “I am going to lunch LD$3 million loan program for the market women three months from now and I can assure you that our promises will be fulfilled.”
“You have made no mistake to have elected me as your lawmaker, from the day you petitioned me to the day we won, I can tell you that you made a history that I Matthew Joe owed to you.”
Rep. Joe, who was appointed as Chair on the House of Representatives Committee on Public Works and Rural Developments, asserted that his position is a blessing to the people of Grand Bassa County.
Citizens of the district presented several gifts to Hon. Joe and his Wife Nelly Joe as a symbol of their support to his leadership.
Joe was the Chief Executive Officer of the Fair play Construction and Business Incorporated before he was petitioned in May 2016 to contest the representative post of electoral district 3.
He recalled that the people’s decision to petition him was a shocker, but his family later accepted the request after several consultations.
