Monrovia – Delegates from the 17 electoral districts in Montserrado County have elected and endorsed Mr. Alexander Cummings as the standard bearer of the Alternative National Congress (ANC).

The endorsement was done Thursday at the party’s 24th Street headquarters during the first of a series of primaries expected to be conducted in the 15 counties.
Even though Cummings went unopposed for the post, the party still maintains that it will conduct primaries in the 15 counties across the country.
The primaries are being held in keeping with section 10 of the constitution of the Party, said Lafayette Gould, chairman of the ANC.
In his acceptance message, Cummings said his quest for the Presidency is not for the money or the prestige of the job but a desire to help build Liberia.
“I am not doing this because I want to make money but because I believe we can change Liberia and all of us got to work together to achieve that. “
“It will not be easy but it is not that hard. Liberians must get ready to fight corruption. It is not going to be business as usual. If that is what you want, don’t nominate me,” he said.
Cummings encouraged the delegates who elected him not to stop their support at the level of primary but must continue and ensure that he is elected Liberia’s next president.
The newly minted ANC standard bearer said he wants Liberians to demand better leadership for the country, meaning having jobs, provision of good medical service, and giving free and quality education to all Liberians as well empowering farmers to feed themselves.
“I offer myself to work with you to deliver a better Liberia that we all desire.”
“As we think about building a better Liberia I ask you to look at all the other candidates that you have to choose from by what they have done and how they have done it and what they can deliver as your leaders.
“If you take look at my records here, outside and everywhere I believe you will be convinced to give me your support to work with you to build a better nation,” he said.
Cummings is among many perceived to be victims of the Code of Conduct due to his appointment as a member of the board of Booker Washington Institute (BWI) by the President but his supporters and Party have dispelled the insinuation.
Back in an exclusive FrontPageAfrica interview, in the backdrop of a political fundraiser in Washington, Mr. Cummings dismissed the inclusion of him among those likely to be axed from the presidential race.
Said Mr. Cummings: “The first thing I would say is that Code of Conducts is not anything bad to have in any organization, in any institution. They need to be very clear and simple to understand and they need to be enforcing consistently.
“In this particular case, it does not apply to me. I was never in government.”
“In this particular case, we are talking about in Liberia; it does not apply to me. I have not been government, was never in government.
“I agreed to support BWI as the premiere vocational institution in our country and I don’t regret that decision but I am very confident that the code does not apply to me.”
