Liberia: CAF Appoints Kunkunyon Wleh On Governance Committee  

Monrovia – Liberian lawyer Attorney Kunkunyon Wleh Teh has been appointed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to one of its most important committees, the Governance Committee. CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe made the appointment of the Liberian to help govern CAF on November 29th, 2023. Attorney Wleh is currently serving as chairman of the Liberia Football Association Ethics Committee.

“It is with great pleasure that we formally welcome you to the Confederation of African Football (‘CAF’) Governance Committee. The Executive Committee, under the leadership of CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has unanimously passed a resolution confirming your appointment for a period of 4 years with effect from November 18, 2023,” a communication from the Liberian lawyer stated.

The parent body of African Football asserted that the role of Liberian football stakeholders is pivotal in upholding the governance standards of CAF, and that CAF is fully committed to supporting Wleh as he transitions into his new position.

The Governance Committee shall deal with, and advise the Executive on, all CAF Governance matters. It shall establish a review sub-Committee, which conducts and recommends the outcome of the Eligibility review for a seat by any candidate to the CAF Executive Committee (except for the seats of CAF President and FIFA Council Members who are mainly subjected to the rules defined in the FIFA Statutes and in the governance regulations of FIFA). The committee shall also establish an Ethics sub-committee in conformity with the CAF Ethics code.

Brief about Attorney Wleh

Attorney Kunkunyon Wleh Teh is a graduate of the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, University of Liberia (LLB, General Law). He also holds a Master of Law (LLM) degree from Emory University School of Law, located in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. His graduate program was tailored around General Practice, Ethics and Professionalism, and Constitutional Law. Before studying law, Atty. Teh earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Cuttington University. He has spent most part of his career doing integrity work at the National Elections Commission of Liberia, the Financial Intelligence Unit of Liberia, and a Special Presidential Task Force on Corruption. Atty. Teh currently practices law as a partner at the International Law Group, LLC, and at the same time, lectures Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, and the Law of Evidence at the African Methodist Episcopal Zion University (AMEZU) in Liberia. He is a current member of the Executive Council of the Liberian National Bar Association.
