Monrovia – The Liberia Cement Corporation implementing its corporate social responsibility has provided scholarships for needy students within its surrounding communities and beyond.
CEMENCO is providing scholarship to students in the Sawmill, Bassa Town, Billimah and Doe Communities through partnership with the leadership of the communities.
The Corporation is also additional scholarships to students from the AME Zion University, United Methodist University and the University of Liberia.
One of the direct beneficiaries of the scholarship program is the Momolu V. Dukuly Arabic and English School located in the Billimah Community on the Bushrod Island.
The proprietor of the institution Mulbah Dukuly thanked CEMENCO for contributing to the education of young people in the country especially in their community.
He said the scholarship program was greatly helping the school, particularly the female students.
Speaking to our reporter, the General Services Manager of CEMENCO, Mr. James Doe Gibson said that CEMENCO would remain engaged in giving back to the community, particularly in education.
He said that education is the bedrock of any nation, so everyone needs to prioritize the learning of all school-going children not only in the community, but all across the country.
Recently, CEMENCO aided efforts of the Ministry of Public Works in the repair of damaged roads in Monrovia and its environs.
Authorities at the Ministry had embarked upon the repair of damaged roads in the city to improve safety of vehicles and to ensure the free movement of pedestrians.
Potholes in the city center and its environs have caused a lot of traffic congestions, damaged vehicles and caused obstacle in the movement of individuals. Most of the roads in the city are in very deplorable conditions.
This has caused the Ministry to immediately commenced working on these roads.
And it is in that connection that the CEMENCO decided to intervene and in assisting the Ministry with a consignment of cement to help in facilitating their efforts.
