MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has investigated, charged and sent to court, Robertson Monboe, 31 for the alleged commission of Theft of Property and Impersonating Official which violates Chapter 12, section 12.35 and Chapter 16, section 16.51 of the new Penal Code of the Republic of Liberia.
Defendant Monboe was arrested on January 8, 2019, in Monrovia after he had gone to collect One Thousand United States Dollars from a miner, Kalay D. Sheriff purporting as the Assistant Minister of Lands, Mines, and Energy, Emmanuel Swen.
According to Police investigation, defendant Monboe had earlier in December 2018 collected six hundred United States Dollars from victim Sheriff again purporting to be Assistant Minister Swen.
The defendant during Police investigation admitted to the commission of the crime.
The LNP warns those in the business of duping peaceful citizens to desist, as it will not hesitate to ensure that those caught are made to face the full weight of the law.
At the same time, LNP has investigated, charged and sent to court two alleged dubious land dealers Richard Smith, 56 and Patrick Karyah, 38 with multiple charges including terroristic threat, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and menacing which contravenes chapter 14 subchapter B section 14.24, chapter 15 section 15.21, chapter 17 section 17.3 and chapter 14 section 14.25 respectively of the Revised Penal code of the Republic of Liberia.
The alleged notorious land dealer had allegedly dubbed several individuals and institutions including the Seventh Day Adventist Mission and a Clergywoman identified as Mother Julie Nelson, a resident of Duport Road in Paynesville.
Defendant Smith along with his accomplice was picked up on the Robertsfield Highway around Shiefflin Town after complaints were filed in by the institutions and individuals.
The investigation also indicates that defendant Smith’s group of thugs headed by Patrick Karyah were in the constant habit of preventing legitimate landowners’ access to their land. The LNP’s criminal investigative report further revealed that prior to their arrest, suspects Smith and Karyah gathered a group of gangsters and deployed them in bushes to prevent the surveying of some parcels of land along the RIA Highway.
