Monrovia – The Liberia National Police has released Jimmy Woyehn, the prime suspect who allegedly led the gang to sodomize a seventeen year old boy, FrontPage Africa has learnt.
FPA learnt that the suspect was taken to the LNP headquarters on Tuesday and released to his lawyer.
Under the Liberian penal code, rape is a non bailable offense.
A family member of the victim said the Police took the suspect at the LNP Headquarters on grounds to obtain additional information.
The family member said they spent the entire day at the headquarters of the LNP giving statements.
“Those people (sodomy suspects) destroy the boy future and they are using money and connection to free this man,” he added.
According to information gathered, the Police released the suspect on grounds that they do not have sufficient evidence to prosecute.
On Monday, Police corroborated a report from the Du-Port Road Clinic, stating that the boy was sodomized. But in spite of the medical report, they have persisted that the evidence is not enough.
Police spokesman Sam Collins said the medical report from the Du-Port Road Clinic in their possession confirmed that the teen was tampered with.
Collins could not speak on the release of the suspect, promising to call back but did not do so.
According to the mother of the victim, the chief suspect, Jimmy Woyehn, asked the boy to help him paint his apartment, saying he took him at the Police Academy Junction to collect additional paint from a black jeep.
Ma Mary narrated that upon her son’s arrival at the junction, he was told to get in the car and collect the paint. While trying to collect the paint, she said he was sprayed and he immediately got dizzy, adding that he was tired and taken to an unknown location and five men allegedly sodomized him.
17yrs old boy Peter Brown (real name withheld) was allegedly gang sodomized in Paynesville by a group of men led by a man identified by the Police as Jimmy Wonyehn (popularly known as Jimmy). The sodomy has left the boy with serious pain in the rectum, stomach and he’s finding it difficult to urinate, according to his mother.
Jimmy, who allegedly lured the boy to be gang sodomized, is a neighbor to the family and is working at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The medical report from the Du-Port health center proved that the boy was tampered with and the health center has since been providing the victim with medical treatment.
The Police have arrested the prime suspect Jimmy and it is expected that suspect be taken to court but that is now farfetched.
