Golden Image Award Pays Homage To Anwar Ezzedine’s Philanthropic Contributions To Liberia

Monrovia – Mr. Anwar Ezzedine has done a lot of philanthropic gesture to those in need. During last week’s 171st Independence anniversary, the Lebanese businessman was honored for the manning contribution he has made to Liberia over the past few years.

Mr. Ezzedine, a former consul general and Chairman, CEO of United Commodities Inc. says he was humbled to receive the honor.

The businessman has been a major contributor to a number of charitable organizations particularly the Christian Association of the Blind (CAB) where he recently rehabilitated an intellectual assembly hall for the blind along the Robertsfield Highway.

Mr. Ezzedine was credited in 2015 for the groundbreaking gesture which helped restore the dignity of visually impaired children. “The hall was renovated at an internationally accepted standard, and it restored the dignity of the visually impaired,” he said.

In January 2015, Mr. Ezzedine was instrumental in helping to ensure the return of some seven Liberian girls who were exploited by a Lebanese national and trafficked to Lebanon.

The girls were rescued by Ezzedine, who hired a lawyer to defend the young women in making sure that the perpetrator was brought to justice.

At the time, Mr. Ezzedine slammed Mr. Bashir Lakiss, the girls’ sponsors for not treat them fairly. “They decided not to work in such atmosphere. He then decided to blackmail them. The Consulate at the time had to get involved and the human rights organization also got involved. This is how some of the young women were kept in Caritas,” Ezzedine said at the time.

The businessman would later recall that he took up the girls’ plight because they were exposed to danger.

The Golden Image Award was started some eight years ago in Honor of former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf’s immense contribution to humanity.
