MONROVIA — The Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) hereby informs all foreign nationals, residents and members of the general public that all persons seeking to obtain, renew or process immigration documents are strongly advised to engage only duly licensed and legally recognized law firms or other authorized service providers, where applicable.
The LIS wishes to make it unequivocally clear that no individual immigration officer should be given money, original documents, personal information or other valuables for the private processing of immigration documents outside established official procedures.
Members of the public are strongly cautioned against engaging in unauthorized transactions or entrusting their immigration matters to individuals who operate outside the legally prescribed framework.
‘‘All immigration applications, prescribed fees and supporting documents must be submitted and processed strictly through the official channels and procedures established by the Liberia Immigration Service and applicable laws of the Republic of Liberia.’’
The LIS urged the public to demand proper documentation for all official payments and to ensure that every transaction is conducted through authorized channels.
The LIS emphasizes that any attempt to circumvent established procedures exposes applicants to potential fraud, document falsification, unauthorized financial demands, and the possible misappropriation of government revenue.
Such practices, according to the LIS, can also place applicants at risk of losing valuable documents, money and sensitive personal information.
The LIS says it will not condone the circumvention of established immigration procedures.
‘‘Members of the public are, therefore, urged to exercise due diligence, remain vigilant, and report suspected cases of fraud, unauthorized document processing, or improper financial demands through the appropriate official reporting channels.’’
The LIS says it remains committed to promoting transparency, accountability, professionalism and the integrity of Liberia’s immigration system.
‘‘Compliance with established procedures is essential to protecting the public, safeguarding government revenue and ensuring that immigration services are delivered lawfully and responsibly,’’ the LIS stated.
Meanwhile, the LIS called on all foreign nationals and members of the public to take this notice seriously and to cooperate fully with the Service in preventing fraud and other irregularities in the processing of immigration documents.
