MONROVIA, Liberia — The Government of Liberia, with support from the World Bank, has begun taking steps to digitalize 16 priority government services in a move aimed at making public services more accessible, efficient, and responsive to the needs of citizens.
The initiative is expected to introduce a more integrated digital government system, allowing citizens to access multiple public services through a single online platform while enabling government institutions to share information more efficiently.
At the center of the initiative is the proposed e-Liberia Platform, envisioned as a one-stop shop for government services. The project also includes the development of a Government Service Bus (GSB) to facilitate real-time information sharing among public institutions, upgrades to the National Data Center, and the digitalization of County Service Centers across the country.
The initiative could mark an important step in reducing the delays and administrative challenges often associated with accessing public services, although its impact will ultimately depend on effective implementation, reliable digital infrastructure, and citizens’ ability to access and use the new systems.
To prepare for implementation, the Office of the Chief Information Officer of Liberia hosted a working session over the weekend, bringing together representatives from participating ministries and agencies.
The meeting focused on validating the status of the 16 priority services, assessing institutional and technical readiness, reviewing existing digital systems and business processes, and identifying appropriate procurement arrangements to support the initiative.
Participants also examined the technical requirements for integrating government institutions into the proposed digital ecosystem, including the Government Service Bus, e-Liberia Portal, application programming interfaces (APIs), and shared digital infrastructure.
Discussions further addressed outstanding requirements, institutional responsibilities, implementation timelines, and the next steps needed to move the project from planning toward execution.
Speaking at the session, Liberia’s Chief Information Officer, Sheikh Sheriff, praised the Government of Liberia and the World Bank for supporting the initiative, describing it as a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation efforts.
