Kemayah: Independence Must Be Reflected in Every Liberian’s Life, Not Just in Name

Monrovia – Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE) Political Leader and Standard Bearer, Ambassador Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah Sr., has called for Liberia’s 179th Independence Anniversary to serve as a renewed commitment to improving the lives of ordinary citizens, declaring that the nation’s freedom should be measured by the well-being of its people rather than by history alone.

In an Independence Day message issued Sunday, July 26, Kemayah said Liberia’s independence must be “felt not only in name but in the lives of every Liberian,” urging citizens to unite around a shared vision of economic empowerment and national development.

The former Foreign Minister paid tribute to Liberia’s founding fathers, praising their courage, resilience, and sacrifices in securing the country’s sovereignty.

“As we celebrate Liberia’s 179th Independence Anniversary, we honor the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of our forefathers who gave us a free nation,” Kemayah said.

He emphasized that political independence should translate into tangible opportunities for citizens, particularly through investments in key sectors that improve livelihoods.

Kemayah reaffirmed MOVEE’s commitment to advancing economic empowerment through business development, education, healthcare, and agriculture, describing the sectors as the foundation for sustainable national transformation.

“At MOVEE, we remain committed to empowering our people through business, education, health, and farming—the pillars of true economic empowerment and national transformation,” he stated.

Calling for national unity, Kemayah urged Liberians to work together with integrity in building a country where every citizen has an opportunity to succeed.

“Let us unite in purpose, work with integrity, and build a Liberia where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive,” he said, adding, “The time to empower is now. The future is ours to build.”

Kemayah concluded his message by extending Independence Day greetings to Liberians at home and abroad while reiterating MOVEE’s slogan: “Poverty Is Not Our Destiny.”

His message joins a series of Independence Day statements from political leaders, civil society organizations, and public officials reflecting on Liberia’s progress and the challenges that remain as the country marks 179 years of nationhood.
