Monrovia—President Joseph Nyuma Boakai on Thursday, February 19, 2026 officially launched and dedicated the newly constructed headquarters of the Liberia Standards Authority, describing the facility as a major step toward strengthening Liberia’s economic transformation.

The commissioning ceremony was held at the compound of the Ministry of Public Works on UN Drive in Monrovia.
Speaking at the event, President Boakai emphasized that the occasion was more than the opening of a building. Instead, he said, it marked the reinforcement of a critical national institution responsible for safeguarding standards across the country.
“Standards are the foundation of a strong economy,” the President stated.
“They protect our people, support our businesses, and build confidence in our marketplace. A nation that upholds standards builds trust—both at home and abroad.”
The President underscored the expanded role the Liberia Standards Authority is expected to play in national development.
He said enhanced regulation and enforcement would ensure product safety, protect consumers and prevent the influx of dangerous, low-quality, counterfeit and unhealthy imports that have historically affected the local market.
He added that the Authority would also focus on standardizing Liberian products throughout the value chain, making them more competitive in regional and international markets.
This effort, he noted, aligns with Liberia’s commitments under the World Trade Organization.
According to President Boakai, the new state-of-the-art facility demonstrates the government’s readiness to strengthen the national quality infrastructure and empower the Authority to deliver measurable results.
The Liberian leader expressed appreciation to the European Union and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), along with other partners, for their collaboration and support in advancing Liberia’s development agenda.
He said such partnerships are vital to ensuring sustainable growth and institutional capacity-building.
Addressing farmers, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, and innovators, President Boakai described the Liberia Standards Authority as a key partner in their growth.
“As standards rise, opportunities expand—and when opportunities expand, Liberia prospers,” he declared.
The President concluded by framing the commissioning as part of a broader nation-building process, stressing the importance of building durable institutions and systems that benefit all Liberians.
“Today’s ceremony is one more strong step in that direction,” he said. “It shows that Liberia is moving forward.”
