The presentation ceremony took place at the Bukonjadeh head office in the presence of staff and customers.

It was led by the President of D. Rockas Basketball Club, Ambassador Ali Sylla, alongside members of the technical team and players.

The award highlights the company’s consistent financial and moral backing, which the club credits for its steady rise within Liberia’s competitive female basketball scene.

Empowering Through Sport and Education

D. Rockas is a women’s basketball club primarily composed of student-athletes from various universities and high schools.

The organization has gained a reputation for balancing on the court competitiveness with a strict emphasis on academic progress and youth development.

Speaking during the presentation, the club’s Vice President, Abraham Dolley, detailed the progressive nature of the partnership.

According to Dolley, Bukonjadeh’s sponsorship has grown significantly over three seasons beginning with L$200,000 in the first year, increasing to L$400,000 in the second, and reaching L$600,000 for the most recent season.

Dolley noted that this financial stability allowed the team to reach the semifinals in one season and the finals in another.

While they have yet to clinch the trophy, the club remains optimistic about the future.

“We want to assure our sponsors that this coming season we will become champions, considering the progress we have made,” Dolley said.

He emphasized that the club felt it necessary to formally appreciate the group for its commitment to women’s basketball and youth empowerment.

A Recognition of Impact

Making the official presentation, Ambassador Ali Sylla lauded Mr. Johns for his continuous investment in Liberian sports development.

“We are very happy to be here today to recognize your efforts in front of your staff and customers, so they can understand the impact you are making in the community,” Sylla said.

He added that the honor recognizes not just the funds provided, but Mr. Johns’ personal interest in the welfare of the players.

CEO Dedicates Award to Customers

In receiving the honor, Mr. Elton Johns described the recognition as a milestone for his company.

However, he was quick to dedicate the award to the customers of the Bukonjadeh Group, noting that their loyalty provides the company with the means to give back.

“This is not for those of us who manage this microfinance company, but for the many customers who patronize us,” Johns stated. “It is because of their loyalty and the interest they pay that we are able to extend a helping hand to clubs like D. Rockas.”

Mr. Johns expressed his pride in seeing young women channel their energy into sports and education rather than “negative activities.”

He reaffirmed the Bukonjadeh Group’s commitment to supporting initiatives that empower young women through the intersection of athletics and academics.
