Montserrado County District Electoral#17 Representative, Hon. Bernard Blue Benson Jr., has extended commendation to His Excellency the President Joseph N. Boakai of for the recent appointment of the Director General and Deputy Director General of the newly established Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA).
The appointments come in the wake of the passage of the Liberia National Tourism Authority Act of 2024, a landmark bill introduced by Representative Benson and unanimously supported by the House of Representatives.
The law aims to revamp Liberia’s tourism sector by establishing a dedicated and autonomous agency to manage, regulate, and promote tourism development across the country.
“The appointment of the Director General and Deputy is a strong signal that the government is serious about transforming tourism into a vital pillar of our economy,” said Hon. Benson. “I urge the new LNTA management to work diligently for the betterment of Liberia and to showcase our rich culture, history, and natural beauty to the rest of the world.”
According to Representative Benson, Liberia holds unmatched potential to become a leading tourism destination—not just in Africa, but globally.
“This belief is what inspired me to submit the bill and push for its passage,” he noted. “Liberia is best suited to dominate the tourism sector, thanks to its diverse cultural heritage, pristine beaches, lush rainforests, and historic sites.”
The Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA) replaces the former Departments of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, and amends Title 30 of the Liberian Code of Laws Revised, known as the Public Authorities Law.
The LNTA will now serve as the central body responsible for promoting Liberia as a tourist destination, encouraging private sector investment in tourism, regulating industry standards, and ensuring environmentally sustainable and culturally respectful practices.
“The LNTA is a strategic step towards creating jobs, preserving our cultural identity, and contributing to Liberia’s broader national development goals,” Benson added.
Representative Benson reaffirmed his commitment to working with all stakeholders, including the new leadership of the LNTA, to ensure Liberia reaches its full potential on the global tourism stage.
