The event, held in Ganta, brought together over one hundred participants representing TVET schools from various counties under the theme “Strengthening Collaboration for Quality and Inclusive TVET Delivery in Liberia.”

The workshop aimed to foster cooperation among TVET stakeholders while enhancing the skills and capacities of educators, administrators, and policymakers within the sector. Sessions featured expert-led discussions, practical training modules, and group activities designed to strengthen curriculum delivery, promote inclusive education, and integrate modern technical skills relevant to Liberia’s evolving economic sectors.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, AITB Director General Abraham Billy highlighted the critical importance of the training. He urged participants to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to improve the quality of education in their institutions. “By enhancing the capacity of TVET professionals, we can attract more partners and funding, which are essential for boosting Liberia’s technical and vocational sectors,” he stated. Director Billy emphasized that a more skilled TVET workforce is vital for reducing Liberia’s dependency on foreign workers in critical sectors such as electricity, construction, and other skilled trades.

Participants expressed enthusiasm about the training, describing it as a timely and significant boost for their schools and the broader TVET community. Many pledged to implement the lessons learned to improve their teaching methods and institutional management, thereby contributing to the overall development of the sector.

UNESCO Country Director Mr. Juel Matue praised the dedication of the participants and reaffirmed UNESCO’s commitment to supporting the Liberian government’s efforts to strengthen the TVET sector. He highlighted the crucial role that TVET plays in equipping young Liberians with skills needed for employment and entrepreneurship, which are key drivers of sustainable economic growth.

This workshop is part of ongoing efforts by AITB and UNESCO to build a competent and dynamic workforce through TVET, ensuring Liberia’s youth are prepared to meet the demands of the local and global labor markets. The program also emphasized inclusivity, encouraging the participation of women and marginalized groups to foster equal opportunities within the sector.

Overall, the two-day event marked a significant milestone in Liberia’s journey toward enhancing technical education and creating a skilled labor force capable of contributing meaningfully to the nation’s social and economic development.
