Liberia: NACSUL Welcomes ECOWAS Parliament’s Visit to NASSCORP

NASSCORP’s Director General Dewitt vonBallmoos

Monrovia – The National Civil Society Union of Liberia (NACSUL) has welcomed the recent visit of the ECOWAS Parliament to the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP) and praised the institution’s achievements under the leadership of Director General Dewitt vonBallmoos, especially as it marks its 50th anniversary.

In a statement issued Tuesday, NACSUL, through its Secretary General Andrew Kettor, commended NASSCORP for its resilience, modernization efforts, and continued adherence to the founding principles of the institution. He described the ECOWAS Parliament’s visit as a validation of NASSCORP’s growing reputation for best practices among social security institutions across the sub-region.

Kettor noted that the visiting ECOWAS delegation expressed satisfaction with their findings and highlighted that NASSCORP now manages assets valued at approximately US$141 million. The delegation also acknowledged the corporation’s status as Liberia’s largest domesticinstitutional investor, crediting this success to the visionary leadership of Director General vonBallmoos.

He further detailed NASSCORP’s diversified investment portfolio, including real estate, hospitals, agriculture, and shares in several commercial banks. Kettor emphasized the corporation’s role in national development through initiatives such as low-cost housing projects and the establishment of the Jahmale Diagnostic Center, which aims to strengthen the country’s medical infrastructure.

Reiterating vonBallmoos’ earlier call, Kettor urged the Legislature to amend the NASSCORP Act to allow the extension of social protection services to the informal sector—one of Liberia’s most underserved workforce segments.

Meanwhile, NACSUL also lauded NASSCORP’s introduction of a US$50 one-time bonus payment to beneficiaries during the 50th-anniversary celebration. Kettor described the gesture as a symbol of appreciation for the trust and support shown by beneficiaries over the years.

He concluded by praising the vonBallmoos-led administration for its unwavering commitment, operational efficiency, and collective efforts to transform NASSCORP into an institution that not only fulfills its core mandate but also champions growth, innovation, and service excellence.
