The ceremony, held over the weekend, was attended by women, elders, and farmers from the Zeayeama Clan, who are direct beneficiaries of the initiative.
The project, which aims to support over 200 vendors, is part of Senator Cyrus’ campaign promise to improve the lives of his constituents.
The mini-market was funded using his first-year salary commitment, a gesture made as part of his ongoing dedication to the development of Lofa County.
During the dedication, Senator Cyrus donated LD$200,000 to a selected group of market women as a form of financial empowerment to enhance their small businesses.
“This market is a symbol of my commitment to you, and I will continue working to ensure that the needs of the people of Lofa County are met,” Cyrus said.
In addition to the market project, Senator Cyrus made several significant financial interventions in Foya Statutory District. At a youth leadership induction ceremony, he pledged L$1 million towards women empowerment programs in Foya Tengia administrative district, emphasizing the important role women play in the community’s socio-economic development.
He also announced a LD$300,000 donation for scholarships to students from Foya Tengia currently enrolled at the Lofa County University, aimed at increasing educational opportunities for the region’s youth.
Furthermore, Senator Cyrus committed US$2,000 to the Tengia District authorities to address local government challenges and provided US$500 to the newly elected youth leadership to support their efforts in driving change.
Senator Cyrus urged the youth leaders to create a blueprint for a proposed youth center, offering his support to provide a space for youth development activities. “The future of Foya Tengia lies in your hands,” he told the new leadership. “Serve with integrity, accountability, and dedication for the betterment of our community.”
The senator’s pledges were met with enthusiastic cheers from citizens across the district, reflecting their support for his leadership and commitment to community development.
Since taking office, Senator Cyrus has dedicated his first-year salary to Lofa County, which is being held in an escrow account supervised by a county project steering committee.
His continued: investment is aimed to promote socio-economic growth and empower the people of Lofa County.
