Monrovia – The United States Ambassador to Liberia, Mark C. Toner, and the Commissioner of the Liberia Maritime Authority, Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe, visited the Liberia Maritime Training Institute (LMTI) Thursday to reaffirm the strong partnership between the United States and Liberia in maritime education and training.

During the visit, Ambassador Toner and Commissioner Lighe, accompanying by Mr. Abraham Zaidenberg, Board Chairman of LMTI toured the state-of-the-art facilities at LMTI, including the modern classrooms, simulation labs, and training vessels.
They engaged with students and faculty members, highlighting the importance of maritime education in fostering economic growth and ensuring maritime safety.
Ambassador Toner express his admiration for the standard exhibited at the institution and emphasized the United States’ commitment to supporting Liberia’s maritime sector, stating that, our partnership with Liberia in maritime training is vital for the development of skilled professionals who can contribute to the global maritime industry.
Commissioner Lighe expressed his gratitude for the continued support from the United States, noting, “The collaboration between our institutions is crucial for enhancing the capabilities of our maritime workforce and promoting sustainable development in Liberia.”
For his part Mr Zaidenberg applauded the ambassador for his visit and assured him of LMTI commitment to provide quality education to the cadets. “Our mission remains steadfast; to provide the highest quality of marine-focused education and vocational skills to qualified Liberians for domestic and international workforce capacity building”.
The visit concluded with a lunch and discussion on future collaborations and initiatives to further strengthen the maritime industry in Liberia.
