The young Liberian representative in the competition on Monday defeated a player from South Korea to remain the world’s number one with six consecutive wins from six games played at the moment.

Her win on Monday means she’s one of the favorites to win the best Individual performer in the world, FrontPageAfrica gathered.

The 15-year-old secured wins over Brazil, Panama, Vanuatu, South Africa, Trinidad & Tobago and South Korea respectively.

The Olympiad is being held in Budapest, Hungary with over 1500 individuals and 175 countries taking part in the month-long event.

Miss Karyah, in continuation of the world championship, won her fifth straight game from five matches by defeating her opposite mate from   T𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐝 & 𝐓𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐠𝐨.

In her opening fixtures of the Olympiad, she defeated highly rated players from Brazil, South Africa, Panama and Vanuatu.

The result means she is the first African to win five straight games at an Olympiad, making her the greatest female African chess player at the moment.

It can be recalled that in 2024, little Karyah, who is the country’s former female chess champion, pulled a surprise win over Nigeria’s Bridget Michael at the Zone 4.2 West African Chess Championship which was held in Liberia.

In that tournament, the Liberian chess giant was named as the second-best female player in West Africa after finishing second behind the Nigerian with six out of a possible seven points.

Speaking from Hungary, Liberia Chess Federation president Thomas Karyah expressed confidence that the tournament will be a success story for Liberia.

He explained that the performance of the Liberian delegation is a clear indication that the government should diversify its sports focus away from football, claiming smaller sports are at risk of dying out if strategy is not changed.

He claimed smaller sports have the ability to bring pride to the country but they are not treated like the country’s lovely sports ” football”.

“This is a trend we must halt as a nation else financial challenges will kill the other disciplines that have the ability to bring pride to the country,” said Karyah.
