Paynesville Football Club secured their place in the next round of the 2024-25 CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) preliminary qualifier on Sunday with a 1-0 away victory in their maiden appearance.

The Liberian CAF Cup representative advanced with an impressive 5-0 aggregate win over Cameroonian side Fovu De Baham in the reverse fixture. Paynesville FC had dominated the first leg in Liberia with a 4-0 victory, a match in which the visiting team fielded only eight players.

Mark Paye, who scored twice in the first leg in Monrovia, netted the only goal in the second half on Sunday, securing all three points for Paynesville FC.

This victory marks a significant milestone for Paynesville FC, as they become the first Liberian club in over six years to achieve back-to-back wins in CAF Inter-club competitions. Additionally, as the 2023-24 Orange Cup winners, they are the first Liberian team in three years to advance to the next preliminary qualifying round of a CAF Inter-club competition, following LPRC Oilers FC’s progression in the 2020-21 CAF Champions League preliminary round with a 4-2 aggregate win over ASKO De KARA.

Paynesville FC will now face Stade Malien of Mali in the next and final preliminary round, with both legs scheduled for next month. The winner of the two-legged tie will advance to the group stage of the competition.
