Sanniquellie, Nimba County – The Supreme Court of Liberia has certificated, honored and retired the resident judge of Nimba County at the Circuit Court in Sanniquellie.
Judge Emery Paye was retired after reaching the age limit set aside for all judges in the country.
Speaking at the retirement program in Sanniquellie, the Chief Justice of Liberia Francis S. Korkpor said Judge Paye honorably served the Judicial system for more than 20 years.
He reemphasized that Article 72 B of the Constitution states that all magisterial and circuit court judges are required to be retired at the age of 70.
According to Chief Justice Korkpor, the honoree served the judicial system for over two decades without creating problems, adding that however, retiring judges is a continuing process for the judiciary branch of government.
Chief Justice Korkpor then announced that two weeks from now the Supreme Court will also be retiring Associate Justice Philip A.Z. Banks as well as the resident Judge of Grand Cape Mount County.
He thanked the retired Circuit Court Judge for his services to the judicial system adding that the court will still need his services.
For his part, retired Judge Paye thanked the Supreme Court for his retirement.
He expressed happiness and said he is still in the legal profession, calling on the court to make use of his expertise at any time.
Meanwhile, the judicial retiree also called on the magistrates or judges of lower courts in the county to forgive him “during his time here because I wanted for the Judicial system to be better”. He also spoke of forgiving them as well.
The retired Nimba County Judge was appointed by former president Charles Taylor in 1993 and has since worked as Judge in several other counties.
