Monrovia – Barely two months in office, Nimba County Electoral District #6 Representative, Dorwohn Gleekia has unveiled plans towards fulfilling some of his promises to his people during the campaign period.

In a news conference recently in Monrovia recently, Mr. Gleekia announced that his office, in collaboration with the Tappita District Development Association (TADDA) based in the United States of America is set to construct a ten-room clinic worth US$40.000.00.
He added that under the partnership, TADDA will provide scholarship to five young people of the district in diverse medical studies to work at the clinic upon its completion.
The facility, according to him, will be constructed 35km from Tappita-in one of the populous areas in the district known as the 4G region (Gboanipea, Goah Town, Grenpea and Gblorgeau) to address the health needs of the people.
“For many years now, the people in this area have been yearning for a clinic”.
“The clinic construction has been their Number one priority. This quest has remained unfulfilled over many years and over many leaderships. In our time we intend to change that around.”
“In this public manner, we want to officially inform the people of District #6 that in collaboration with the Tappita District Development Association in the Diaspora, we have decided to embark upon the construction of a clinic in the 4Gs region this year in fulfillment of our first campaign Promise,” he avowed.
The project, according to him, will commence pending an assessment by the County Health Team to the area to ascertain whether the site falls within the County Health Team ten years road map.
He also added that the project upon its commencement will last for 12 months and will include a small staff quarter to maintain staff in the locality and motivate health workers from other areas to come render their services.
Mr. Gleekia was flanked by the Executive Director of TADDA, Joanne Toweh and the Acting Chief Medical officer of the Jackson Fiah Doe Referral Hospital, Dr. Gonkarnue Nuahn who pledged support to the project.
Madam Toweh revealed that TADDA has resuscitated its scholarship program and will grant scholarships to 15 young people of the district to study Nursing and other Health Science Related Courses, Agriculture and Education at the beginning of 2018/2019 academic year.
She disclosed that TADDA has formed a partnership with Duke University of North Carolina, USA where the district will benefit ten 40 feet containers of medical equipment and supplies for JFD Hospital and clinics across Tappita Statutory District.
she also used the medium to called on citizens of Tappita District residing in the United States as well as in Liberia to form part of the development grouping to collectively work and move the district forward.
“We concurred with everything that has been said by the Honorable Representative and we are here to say that TADDA USA is in full support”.
“We intend to continue our commitment to our people from the district. We are also in partnership with Duke University from North Carolina and they committed 10 containers of medical supplies and equipment.”
“So, with this, it’s not just for the hospital, but for the clinics in the district. With the opening of the new clinic, of course it will be supplied by the materials coming on the containers,” she averred.
The Acting Chief Medical Officer of JFD, Dr. Gonkarnue Nuahn hailed Mr. Gleekia for the initiative and noted that it is the first time for a lawmaker of the district to sit with the citizens to collectively discuss about the implementation of development project.
Dr. Nuahn, a beneficiary of TADDA Scholarship at medical school thanked the district development organization for the support and pledged the hospital’s continuous commitment to promoting the healthcare delivery system of the district and country at large.
Mr. Gleekia replaces Ricks Toweh of the 53rd Legislature is the current Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Peace and Reconciliation.
