Buchanan, Grand Bassa County – ‘It’s time for a native man to rule,’ remains the foundation of the Unity Party’s elections campaign as recently resounded by the vice standard bearer, J. Emmanuel Nuquay who on Monday, September 4 urged the people of Grand Bassa County to support a “native ticket”.
Speaking at the Unification Pavilion to hundreds of supporters in Buchanan, Speaker Nuquay told his supporters that the UP’s standard bearer, Vice President Joseph Boakai, was the son of a rubber tapper while his father was a farmer who never had the opportunity of attaining any formal education.
He said: “It is time for Liberia to move forward through the Boakai-Nuquay ticket, a ticket which is the real country ticket, a ticket that knows the needs of the Liberians because of our background.”
Speaker Nuquay further boasted of having a balanced ticket noting, “Joseph Boakai represents the elders of Liberia and me, Emmanuel Nuquay, I’m representing the youthful population of Liberia.”
Speaker Nuquay told his supporters that they should not get carried away by the messages of change preached by opposition parties, noting that even the Boakai-Nuquay ticket is opting for change.
Speaking further on change, he explained that change is coming to Liberia because President Ellen Johnson’s government is fading out and their entire election is about change.
“This election is about changing from one president to another because Madam Sirleaf is leaving and there will be a new president come January; stop preaching change as we all are contesting for change,” he asserted.
Nuquay noted that most politicians in the opposition talking about change in government are only seeking their personal gains and don’t mean well for the country.
He further urged the people of Grand Bassa County to rather support a county that is prepared to take on the presidency, noting that there is no prepared Bassoian for the presidency in the upcoming election.
“Bassolians you need to liberate Bassa through this election because when your time comes, you will need the support of other counties, “Nuquay
“Stop being fooled by those claiming to be the owners of Bassa when they are not prepared because I myself come from the Bassa belt which is Margibi,” Nuquay stressed.
