American Football Superstar Alvin Mentian Kamara on March 8, 2024, visited the Ministry of Youth and Sports to identify how he can contribute towards Sports in Liberia.
The New Orleans Saints Running Back player expressed interest in supporting sports in Liberia, saying that he wants to see children have the same opportunities as their peers in other countries.
He said his visit to the Ministry of Youth and Sports is to get first-hand information on the best sports played in Liberia and how he and his business associates can help invest in sports development in Liberia.
Welcoming Mr. Kamara and his business partners to the Ministry, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, G. Andy Quamie thanked the NFL Star for thinking about his root country and his desire to invest in sports in Liberia. Minister Quamie told Mr. Kamara that sports in Liberia are challenged in every aspect, from infrastructure to finance and sustainability.
Minister Quamie also informed Alvin Kamara that the stadium needs a few sets of dugout seats, and the lighting system needs to be changed from analog to digital so that it can reach FIFA standards.
The Deputy Minister of Sports Andy Quamie, the Deputy Minister of Administration Henry Yonton, the Deputy Minister of Youth Development J. Bryant McGill, and the Assistant of Sports Murvee Gray led Alvin Kamara and his team to tour the sporting facilities at the SKD Sports Complex which include the Kickball pitch, the Basketball Gymnasium, the Volleyball and Handball Court, and the SKD Sports pitch for him to have a clearer picture and understanding of the challenges sports are faced with in Liberia.
