Liberia’s Emmanuel Mensah, along with three of his Liberian counterparts, was selected by CAF to officiate a 2023/2024 Confederation Cup second-round first-leg tie between Mali’s Stade de Malien and Burundi’s Aigle Noir at the March 26 Stadium at 16:30 GMT on September 17. Mensah will serve as the central referee and will be assisted by compatriots Joel Doe (assistant referee #1), Ephriam Grant (assistant referee #2), and Moses Forkpah (fourth official).
According to the Confederation of African Football, Cape Verde’s Joel Amarante Ramos Barros will serve as the match commissioner, and Mali’s Halidou Maiga will be the medical officer, completing the line-up. It can be recalled that Stade de Malien eliminated Liberian outfit Watanga FC from the competition in August. The winner of the tie will qualify for the group stage of the competition.
Meanwhile, CAF has also selected experienced Liberian Female central referee Sylvina Garnett to officiate the Women’s African Cup of Nations qualifier in Nigeria. A release from CAF named Liberia’s FIFA-badged referee Sylvina Welma Garnett to officiate the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier (Watcon) between Nigeria and Sao Tome & Principe at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, Nigeria, on September 22.
Sylvina will team up with Eritrea’s Elsa Ghebrab Yohannes as assistant referee #1 and Yohana Negasi Tesfagiorgis as assistant referee #2. Sierra Leone’s Humu Marah (fourth official), Christine Enyonam Ziga of Ghana (match commissioner), and Nigeria’s Ozi Salami Abdulrahim Onimisi (medical officer) complete the line-up.
Sylvina and Humu, along with Tracy Chayee and Hannah Moses of Liberia, officiated a FIFA Women’s Under-20 qualifier between Guinea Bissau and Togo in Bissau on September 8. The winner of the Nigeria and Sao Tome and Principe match will face the winner of the Liberia and Cape Verde clash.
