The football house took the decision to approve D. Tweh Field following request from Global Pharma FC that they wanted to play their home games at the D. Tweh.
The decision was taken by the Competition Department of the LFA after the Club Licensing department approved the stadium as the official home of the Pharmacists.
A communication from the Competition Department to all first division clubs signed by the Competition Manager Joel Freeman disclosed that D.Tweh field has been added to the venue for first division games.
The Communication said, “Following the Club Licensing Department approval of Global Pharma’s application for D-Tweh Field to host league matches (Global Pharma home games), we are pleased to officially inform all First Division Clubs that Global Pharma home games will be played at said venue with immediate effect.”
“Urgently, the first leg of the Orange Cup Quarter Final match (Global Pharma vs. Mighty Barrolle) shall be played at D-Tweh Field on Thursday, 7 March 2024 at 4:00pm.”
“Global Pharma’s subsequent league home games will be adjusted and communicated through the CMS,” the communication said.
It can be recalled that D. Tweh football pitch last hosted a topflight game during the 2013 league season and since that time residents of New Kru Town have been unable to watch first division league games at the venue.
Former Liberian President George Weah on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 dedicated the D-Tweh Field sports pitch in New Kru Town following months of work to make it a modern football field.
Prior to refurbishment of the pitch, it was a dusty and rocky playing pitch that produced some of the country’s best players.
The Brushroad Island based club will now host their remaining home games at the Stadium, something many of the supporters have termed as good news.
With D.Tweh field finally approved, the Pharmacists of Global Pharma first home game will be against Mighty Barrolle in the Orange Cup on Thursday March 7, 2024 at D.Tweh Field located in New Kru Town at 4PM.
Many of the fan have been reacting to the news in a more positive way. Richard Kootee wrote: “That’s good news and we appreciate the leadership of both institutions for a very nice decision taken. Keep up the amazing work. We’re the Pharmacists of Liberia.”
Thomas Diamond Deemi said, “That’s good news, let’s make this ground a fortress the pharmacists.”
