Monrovia – Liberian winger Edward Ledlum has officially joined Algerian Premier League club ASO Chlef from Paynesville FC for an undisclosed fee.
The 2022/2023 Liberian League Most Valuable Player was unveiled by ASO Chlef on Monday, January 13, 2025.
Ledlum’s transfer comes after his international transfer papers were finalized. He has reportedly signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, with an option for extension, as he embarks on a new chapter in his career.
The 25-year-old was scouted during a recent match where the Liberian national team faced Algeria, despite the Lone Star’s defeat. His impressive performance in that match caught the attention of ASO Chlef, leading to the club’s decision to bring him on board.
In a statement, ASO Chlef announced, “Liberian international Edward Ledlum is the first forward to join our ranks during the winter transfer period. We have received his international exit sheet today. He is active in the offensive line and can play on both left and right wings.”
Prior to his move to Algeria, Ledlum achieved significant milestones in Liberia, winning various league titles, including the championship with LISCR FC and the FA Cup with Paynesville FC. He played a crucial role for Paynesville, contributing to 32 goals (15 goals and 17 assists) in 30 games, helping the team secure its first FA Cup title and a remarkable run in the 2024 CAF qualification.
Paynesville FC extended their best wishes to Ledlum in a statement confirming his departure: “We have reached an agreement with ASO Chlef for the transfer of Edward Ledlum. Citizens, let’s gather to wish our star boy success in his new chapter.”
Expressing his excitement about the transfer, Ledlum took to social media to thank Paynesville FC for his time at the club. “After just one year, it’s already time to say goodbye. I am very grateful for the incredible experiences and memories. I wish the team the best for the future,” he posted.
Speaking from Algeria, Ledlum conveyed his enthusiasm for his new opportunity. “It’s a dream come true for me. I needed a change in my career, and I want to achieve my goals and help the team win,” he said. He noted the Algerian league’s reputation as one of the best in Africa, expressing eagerness to start this new challenge.
ASO Chlef, who previously won the Algerian Ligue 1 championship in 2011, currently sits 7th in the 2024-2025 league standings, accumulating 20 points from 15 matches. The club plays its home games at the 20,000-capacity Mohamed Boumezrag Stadium in Chlef.
Ledlum began his career at Joy Football Club in Liberia’s third division, later moving to Brewerville United, where he earned a spot on the Montserrado County football team. He has also played for LISCR FC and had a stint in the Belarus Premier League with Energetik-BGU Minsk before returning to Liberia.
Having made 12 appearances for the Liberian national team, Ledlum’s transition to ASO Chlef marks an important step in what promises to be a fruitful career in international football.
