MONROVIA – The Unity Party USA and Canada membership in its general meeting on Sunday, February 23 voted to suspend the erstwhile Advisory Council Chairman and his cohorts for actions deemed divisive, incompatible with the group’s determination to mobilize support for the party to ensure success in building Liberia’s democracy.
The individuals suspended are: Millie Peters, Eric G Karsor Sr., Davis Saah, Nathaniel Charly, Augustus Wrayee, James Byilee and William Kpadehyea. In October, 2019, the USA and Canada chapter held its convention in Minnesota in an effort to rejuvenate and substantially assist the party’s activities in upcoming elections in 2020 and 2023.
The suspended members have been accused of waging a “relentless campaign” to undo the express will of the overwhelming majority of partisans and a process that was examined and endorsed by the National Executive Committee in Liberia and graced by a delegation headed by the Standard Bearer, His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai.”
The convention was initiated by former Chairman Dr. Anthony Kanneh’s appointment of a convention committee charged with the responsibility of proposing timing and venue of the exercise which was due in 2018 for which members were restlessly agitating.
Notwithstanding, the overwhelming desire for moving forward, a very small minority advocated for delaying the convention.
According to re-elected 1st Vice Chairman Erasmus Williams who presided over the convention due to former Kanneh’s re-location to Liberia, the arguments of the delay proponents were overwhelmingly rejected in voting on the convention committee and at the general meeting.
“Unfortunately, Mr. Kpadehyea, a participant in the convention who declared a desire to contest for the chairmanship but failed to register his leadership team or speak out during the convention, Mr. Eric Karsor, a member of the convention committee, whose views did not prevail and Millie Brooks Peters, a no vote in the general meeting authorizing the convention Chairman Kerper Dwanyen in an interview expressed frustration that in spite of efforts by the Standard Bearer, outreach efforts and countless intermediaries to encourage the disgruntled partisans to avail themselves of avenues to reconcile their grievances and work for the benefit of the party, Mr. Kpadehyea and his cohorts have ignored and rebuffed all such efforts at unity and in unwarranted Undemocratic fashion, resolved to undermine the will of our partisans to suspicion and profound disappointment.
“The general membership in their quest to strengthen the institution and bring progress to our beloved country determined that their patience was no longer justified and resolved to send a clear message with the hope that our comrades will change course and come together to consolidate our efforts for our common patrimony.
“In the meantime, anyone or institution (s) doing business with any of these individual (s) will be doing so at their own risk and is therefore asked to desist with immediate effect.
Their suspension takes immediate effect, February 24, 2020, until they meet with the constituted disciplinary committee to answer for their actions.
