Making the formal disclosure Saturday, March 15, 2024, at the party’s headquarters in Congo Town, the Secretary-General, Jefferson Koijee, said Atty. Kowo is a retired student general and a well-experienced public servant who is best suited to run the affairs of the party.
The Secretary-General of the former ruling establishment, now the major opposition political party in the country, expressed explicit confidence in the leadership ability of the Acting Chief Administrator of the party.
According to him, this decision follows a series of consultations among National Executive Members, which received the blessing of the Standard Bearer of the party, George Manneh Weah.
“After deep consultation with our National Executive Members and with the support of the former President of the Republic of Liberia and Standard Bearer of our party, George Weah, Atty. Kowo was unanimously preferred to serve as the Acting National Chairman of the Mighty Coalition for Democratic Change,” he said.
He indicated that the party had received and accepted the letter of resignation of Mulbah K. Morlu as National Chairman of the CDC but intoned that the former Chairman enjoys the privilege as a perpetual Executive Member of the party without being voted for.
The chief scribe added that the new leadership under Atty. Kowo will find a time to bestow the party’s highest honor upon Mr. Morlu for his sacrifices and commitment through his service rendered to the CDC over the years.
Mr. Koijee noted that Mr. Weah sees in Morlu the full potential and still recognizes his many supports to the political party.
“In our party, when you serve with honor and obedience, you will be honored at the appropriate time,” he said.
Meanwhile, Jefferson Tamba Koijee has termed as total nonsense the Asset Recovery Team constituted by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, aiming to retrieve and recover all government’s properties illegally in possession of former state actors to restore public trust and fight corruption.
He maintained that no member of the CDC, not even a chicken, will be subjected to the process, thus questioning the integrity, credibility, and character of the individuals appointed to lead the asset recovery process across the country.
Koijee further warned President Joseph Boakai not to venture into anything he cannot sustain, adding that the Liberian leader should focus on the job for which he was voted by the citizens.
At the same time, Jefferson Koijee warned the Unity Party government to desist from witch-hunting members of the CDC at various public ministries, commissions, and agencies.
He termed it as a classical madness on the part of the Managing Director of the National Port Authority, Sekou Dukuly, claiming that Mr. Dukuly illegally dismissed workers who are supporters and members of the Coalition for Democratic Change.
The CDC Secretary-General threatened that the party will without any fear remove any government official involved in such acts from his/her position while he also urged all CDCians to not bow to any form of intimidation from those public officials.
“I want to warn Mr. Boakai and his officials that the government is not their personal enterprise or property,” Koijee said.
Meanwhile, Jefferson Koijee disclosed that former President George Weah has formally requested 25 officers of the Executive Protection Service from President Joseph Boakai for his safety but said the request is yet to be given attention by the Boakai-Koung administration.
He stressed that if the current Liberian leader refuses to grant the ex-President’s request, members and executives of the CDC will provide the necessary security at their best discretion for their standard bearer without the approval of President Boakai.
