The Editor,
Payroll fraud is nothing new in the Liberian government. Head of government agencies, with the help of their comptrollers and accountants, would insert “ghost names” on their payrolls, or fail to delete names of people who died, retired, or were dismissed from their agencies.
(Re “Ghost Names Dominates Police Payroll”) But payroll fraud is small potatoes when you compared it to fake companies, created by government crooks, to funnel other people’s hard earn money into their PERSONAL accounts.
a) Remember how Ellen Crookrum and her boyfriend (Melvin Immoral Johnson) set up bogus companies to steal US$500,000 from the Liberian people?? (Re “Next Chapter in RIA-Corkum Saga: Recouping Lost Fund”, Frontpageafrica)
b) Remember how super model and former Mayor of Monrovia (Ophelia Hoff Saytumah) stole thousands and thousands of dollars from the Monrovia City Corporation by setting up fake companies to funnel the Liberian people money into her personal account?? (Re “MCC Jackpot Scam Busted” New Democrat)
c) Remember how Wokie Matilda Parker and Christina Klepto Paelay awarded an US$800,000 contract to a bogus company? (Re “Suspended NPA Boss Charged with over US$800K Theft” Daily Observer Online)
Such ill-gotten money has turned these born rogues into instant millionaires! Wokie’s now worth 10 billion Liberian Dollars!
But will you ever see Parker or Paeley in a prison jumpsuit? Please. These crooks already know that you can bribe the judge and jury to get a favorable outcome of their cases. (Re “Liberia’s Judiciary ‘Influenced by Corruption”, Daily Observer Online)
So what good does these government agencies (GAC, LACC, PPCC, MOJ, EM) do when government officials who are caught taking bribes, committing fraud, or stealing money rarely go to jail??
If we don’t get our act together, the culture of impunity and corruption will destroy our country! Again.
