Global Witness Should Give Public Benefit of Doubt By Providing Solid Evidence

    The Editor,

Hours ago, you suggested that those accused by the GW report “should give GW the benefit of the doubt”. Global Witness should also give the people/public the benefit of the doubt By providing evidences and not mere allegations! Others, went on to wrongly believe that Cllr. Varney Sherman, is wrong and is “putting himself above the laws” By adhering to jurisprudential standards which we have quoted and articulated infra.

Mr. Editor, to every rule, there are Exceptions, and the rule of law must be applicably augmented to ETHICS! Those exceptions, to our mind are the basis or spirit of Senator Sherman´s very solid constitutional and legitimate argument!

The learned compatriot, the Senator, Cllr. Varney Gbotonambi NEVER SAID “there is a law either in the Constitution or a legal precedent in Liberia which puts an individual or entity above the laws of the land, hence granting immunity from disclosure of facts” AS SOME WRONGLY ASSERT!

Mr. Editor, Cllr. Sherman REMINDED the Press and the public that: “LAWYERS are prohibited by law and the Liberian Constitution from divulging to anyone what LAWYERS do for CLIENTS or did not do for CLIENTS when they serve as  lawyers for CLIENTS in Liberia; for the CODE  of their (LAWYERS)professional ethics and the Liberian Constitution prohibits them (LAWYERS) from making any such disclosures”!!!
Hence, those misconstruing Cllr. Sherman´s argument as “putting himself above the law” must

    IMMEDIATELY rescind their outrageous assertions!

For THE JURISPRUDENTIAL EXCEPTIONS prescribed By statutory laws and constitutions across the globe (or within a given country) for certain professionals (ie. lawyers etc.) are in no way, shape nor form, a mechanism “putting an individual or entity above the law”!!!

Again, to every rule, there are exceptions, and the rule of law must be applicably augmented to ETHICS! And within the intellectual and legal parameters under scrutiny, such exceptions, as articulated by Cllr. Sherman, are granted to lawyers and few other professions or professionals.
