Monrovia – A local organization presenting people with disabilities, the Disabled of Like Minds for Good Governance, has condemned the decision of the National Commission on Disabilities (NCD) for suspending three employees of the entity.

Speaking to FrontPage Africa, the group President Samuel Dean said the indefinite suspension of the three employees is a contradiction of President George Weah’s policy to promote and protect people with disability in his government.
NCD suspended in May of this year without pay Hannah Watson, Human Resource Manager, Moses Tarnue, Procurement Officer and Michael Nagbe, Special Assistant to the Deputy Director for Administration for leaking sensitive documents to the public.
The letter of suspension, which is in the position of this paper, labeled the three employees action as a contravention of the entity’s policy.
But the group, Disable of Like Mind for Good Governance, has branded the accusation against the three employees that led to their suspension as false and misleading.
“Our colleague’s dismissal is completely against the President’s policy not to sack disabled because the disables are the poorest of the poor. Because of this decision, our colleagues are unable to provide food and clothing for their family. NCD should be promoting disable people and not to take them out of job for the accusation that is not true,” he noted.
The group is, however, calling on President Weah and other officials of government to quickly look into the matter in order to prevent things from getting out of hand.
“In keeping with diplomatic tenants and procedures, we have written the President of Liberia, the Speaker of the House of Representative and the Honorable Senate Pro-tempore. Accordingly, we grieve in prayer that our leaders will look into this matter with grave concern as injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” Dean averred.
At the same time, Dean called on the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to promote and provide protection for people living with disability.
He stressed that it is important for the Ministry to work with the National Commission on Disability and other organizations in the country to promote members of the physically challenge community.
“The National Commission on Disabilities and the Ministry of Gender who are mandated to provide the disable with the requisite tools to excel, do so or the Pro-Poor Agenda for transformation will be another hypocritical rhetoric or a failure like her predecessor the poverty reduction strategy,” he said.
