Speaking at a press conference Tuesday, October 30, LNRCS Secretary General Saybah Tambah described the provision of the free ambulance service to the public as well as the reopening of the LNRCS clinic as a “giant step” in the fulfillment of better health care system for the people of Liberia.
She said the ambulance will be available to citizens in and around the city of Monrovia free of charge. Madam Tambah noted that the US$31,000 Express Shoken funded ambulance free service is an addition to the already existing clinic that is rendering service to the public on a minimum basic.
“This express Shoken funded grant free ambulance service is to provide twenty-four-hour free service for our people in and around Monrovia”, she noted.
The LNRCS General Security noted that it is engaging the Ministry of Health and other relevant partners in the running of both the clinic and the free ambulance service.
“We have had consultations with the National Public Health Institute and also in collaboration with the National Health county team on the running of both the clinic and the ambulance service to our people”, Tambah asserted.
The clinic situated at the headquarter of the LNRCS on Lynch Street in Monrovia, was closed down during the height of the Ebola crisis in 2014, but following a major renovation some time this year, it is fully operational now.
The revamped Red Cross Clinic carries out preventive health care services. It also runs a Maternal Newborn Child Health (MNCH) service.
Meanwhile, the LNRCS has procured several media equipment worth US$4,620.00 to be distributed among several local journalists across the country.
Speaking on the empowerment and capacity building for local journalists, LNRCS Secretary General Saybah Tambah highlighted the importance of the media in reporting human-interest stories across the country.
She said the digital camera and recorders will be distributed to 14 journalists from the counties that had been trained and certificated in humanitarian reporting and first aid in June of this year by LNRCS in partnership with the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) and the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC).
“The intention is for them to assist us in profiling the humanitarian needs across the country as well as alerting these institutions responsible to be able to respond in due time”, madam Tamba stated.
At the same time the LNRCS is cautioning the public against the misuse of the entity’s emblem. According to her, only the LNRCS is duly mandated to use the Red Cross emblem in time of peace, adding that the LNRCS and her relevant partners are the only only ones to use the emblem, which is use for protection and indication internationally.
“The emblem has been misused and in order to prevent the misuse of the emblem by the abusers we have decided to launch this emblem campaign for the protection of our emblem,” the LNRCS SG averred.
