MONROVIA – A United States-based young Liberian professionals known as ‘The Gentlemen’s Club’ will on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 present a consignment of medical textbooks to the A.M. Dogliotti College of Medicine of the University of Liberia.
The presentation is intended, by and large, to address the shortage of medical textbooks that confronts and significantly impedes studies at the College. According to the Club’s Chairman Jerry K. Yogboh, the Gentlemen’s Club of Pennsylvania in partnership with some staff members of the University of Pennsylvania secured the textbooks as their way of helping to prevent another large-scale medical crisis in Liberia due to the lack of adequately trained medical professionals.
The value of the book donation is estimated at US$25,000 and culminates a two-year project initiated by the Club in the wake of the Ebola crisis back in 2014. Consequently, it is anticipated that the textbooks will go a long way in preparing medical practitioners and doctors for Liberia to ultimately alleviate the shortage of such professionals in the Country.
The Gentlemen’s Club was established in June of 2004 by a few men within the Liberian community of Philadelphia. Its mission is to draw on the expertise and support of its members to address pressing social problems within the Liberia diaspora as well as Liberia where most of her members originate.
