Gbao District, Grand Gedeh County –The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Carter Center will this weekend hold a peace dialogue between traditional leaders of Nimba and Grand Gedeh Counties.
The meeting is expected to be held in Gbao Administrative District, Grand Gedeh County.
The Grand Gedeh meeting is the return-leg of similar meeting which took place in Nimba in 2014.
The meeting is part of the Ministry’s continuous engagement effort with traditional and community leaders to sustain and harmony in Liberia.
During the meeting, participants are encouraged to share exchanges, identified shared challenges as well as find solution together.
Deputy Internal Affair Minister for Administration, Varney A. Sirleaf is leading the MIA team along with Deputy Minister for Operations Hon. Gbeme Horace-Horace, while the Carter Center is represented by its Chief of Party Mr. Pewee Flomoku among others.
The Carter Center, in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the National Council of Chiefs and Elders(NCCEL) and other partners seeks to strengthen local governance by providing regular training on the Rule of Law, Dispute Resolution, Leadership, and inclusive governance to local and National Chiefs, women and youth.
These approaches are then applied through The Carter Center’s supported town hall meetings and conflict intervention undertaken by chiefs at both local and Nationals.
