Gbarnga, Bong County – A citizen of Bong County, Dennis Garsinii, resident in the United States of America, has donated over US$5,000 worth of hospital equipment to the Bong County Health Team.
Report by Selma Lomax, [email protected]
The donation is being spearheaded by Mrs. Dorothy Toomann, former executive director of the Development Education Network Liberia (DEN-L).
According to her, Garsinii, who saw the need to contribute to the nation building, was moved to initiate the collection of such equipment in order to help the country. “Day by day,” she said, “the collection became larger until Mr. Garsinii finally shipped them by sea to Liberia.”
Mrs. Toomann said that it was Garsinii’s own way of giving back to the society because of his conviction that government alone could not meet the yearnings and needs of the citizenry alone.
She further stated that Garsinii was influenced by the practical demonstration of the patriotic and humanitarian spirit, which prevails in the United States of America, adding that emulating the American spirit of giving back to society, he resolved last year to embark on this project.
She noted that Garsinii was poised to partner with well-meaning individuals and groups in Bong County toward actualizing his objective of supporting the Liberian government in making life more meaningful for the citizenry.
Mrs. Toomann promised that they would partner with the County Health Team in identifying other health facilities where the donated items would make more impact. She admonished C. B. Dunbar Hospital to make judicious use of the equipment for the full benefit of its patients.
Garsinii had made similar donations, including educational materials, computer sets and clothing, to other districts in Bong County including Kokoyah, Kpaii and Jorquelleh (Districts One and Two).
Speaking, the medical director of C. B. Dunbar Maternity Hospital, one of several health facilities that benefited from the donation, Dr. Kour Geah, commended the donor for having his country at heart, describing it as a demonstration of “uncommon patriotism” not only to Bong County but Liberia.
Dr. Geah thanked Garsinii for donating medical equipment worth over US$5,000 to public hospitals in Bong County and urged him not to rest on his oars while urging that the donation be an annual event and rotational among the hospitals in the central region.
Dr. Geah also stated that Garsinii has
been championing the development of healthcare system in the county including
the C.B Dunbar and thanked him for his support to upgrade the healthcare system
in Bong.
The doctor described Garsinii as “ambassador
without borders.”
