According to court records, the suspect, Thomas Togba Kun, was the woman’s client. “The City Solicitor has been charged with Sexual Assault, a third-degree crime under section 14.77 of the New Panel Law of Liberia,” court records available to reporters revealed.
The 21-year-old victim said she was sexually assaulted after Kun pleaded on her behalf during a case at the court. She alleged the City Solicitor requested her to pay USD$40 in the name of “clearing the court desk”, something she refused to do.
“He was representing me in a case when I credited my friend and later my friend and myself came up to an agreement to pay, so he said I should give him US$ 40 dollars to ‘clear the desk’ and I agreed, but he would later tell me to forget paying the money and visit him at his house.”
“When I reached his house he proposed to me and told me he wanted to have sex with me, when I refused he pushed me on the bed but I fought my way and ran outside,” she said.
“And that’s how I complained him to my boyfriend and he asked me to carry the case to court.”
The 21-year-old described the reported action by the City Solicitor as “shocking” and vowed to pursue the matter to the end.
Kun, however, reserved comments when contacted by reporters while enroute to prison.
