In a public statement, Madam Boyidee explained that her endorsement of Kogar followed thorough consultations with family members, relatives, and close associates of the late senator.
She highlighted that her decision was rooted in the cultural traditions of the Johnson family and the enduring legacy of her late husband.
“After careful discussions with my family and the extended Johnson family, I am proud to fully support Hon. Kogar as the rightful candidate to carry on the work of my late husband,” said Madam Boyidee. “I stand behind him with unwavering support, and I pledge my commitment to both the Johnson and Kogar families in all political endeavors going forward.”
Madam Boyidee also expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support her family received during the funeral of her late husband, which took place on January 18, 2025, in Ganta, Nimba County.
She thanked the people of Liberia, particularly those from Nimba County, for coming together to honor Senator Johnson’s legacy.
Addressing growing rumors on social media about her own possible candidacy for the vacant Senate seat, Madam Boyidee strongly rejected the speculation. “I want to make it absolutely clear that I have no intention of running for the Senate seat,” she stated. “I will not be contesting the position.”
In closing, Madam Boyidee extended her sincere thanks to the Government of Liberia, the people of Liberia, and especially the citizens of Nimba County for their continued support during this challenging time.
She called for a peaceful and transparent electoral process as the National Elections Commission (NEC) prepares to announce the date for the by-election.
