FISHTOWN, VOINJAMA – USAID’s Conservation Works project consortium member Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue & Protection (LCRP), alongside the Liberia Forestry Development Authority (FDA), Liberia National Police/Interpol, and the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) conducted training in Fishtown, River Gee County and Voinjama, Lofa County from September 19-25 under the theme “Saving Liberia’s Chimpanzee’s: Working Together to Stop the Killing and Trade of Chimpanzees.” The training, which was attended by participants from multiple law enforcement agencies, focused on enhancing capacity to tackle all aspects of wildlife trafficking, including prevention, detection, investigation, and prosecution. Seredou, Guinea – Liberia Forestry Development Authority (FDA), Guinea Forestry Center of N’Zerekore (CFZ), Fauna & Flora, and Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue & Protection organized a cross-border training for joint security and prosecutors thanks to support from the African Forest Elephant Foundation and Liberia’s Conservation Works project. The training, held from September 5-8th in Seredou, Guinea, is part of a collaboration between Guinea and Liberia aimed at fighting illegal wildlife trade (IWT) in the Ziama Wonegizi-Wologizi landscape. FDA rangers, Liberia Immigration Service, Liberia National Police, customs officers, magistrates, prosecutors, and lawyers joined their Guinean counterparts in this three-day intensive exchange.
