Johnson as Chair of the Liberian Senate Committee on Defense and Intelligence. In a press statement on May 19, 2021, the Embassy stated that it can have no relationship with Senator Johnson, a notorious warlord, as well as Senator Varney Sherman, Chair of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Human Rights, Claims and Petition, who has been sanctioned by the U.S. Department of the Treasury for corruption involving judicial bribery.
