The Government of the Peoples’ Republic of China provides bilateral scholarship slots to Liberians through its Embassy near Monrovia to seek international studies at Chinese universities.
The granting of scholarship is part of China’s support to underdeveloped countries around the world.
It was against such backdrop, according to the Margibi County Electoral District#3 Lawmaker, that she made frantic efforts in order to secure some of the scholarship slots for Margibians.
“The scholarships are there and are given to the central government, but the lack of information in acquiring these scholarships is what got me to engage the Chinese Government in order to get my constituents and Margibians to benefit.” Rep. Attoh-Wreh told FPA.
She disclosed that her meeting in February with H.E. Ambassador Fu Jijun, the Chinese Ambassador accredited to Liberia, was intended to get the Chinese Government to aid women of her district in the area of agricultural supports and seek for opportunities in the educational sector for her constituents, especially the underprivileged.
Rep. Attoh-Wreh revealed that during her interaction with Ambassador Fu, he welcomed her pursuit for opportunities for her people, promising on behalf of his country and government to make the provision of some unspecified numbers of scholarship slots to her constituency.
The Margibi County Lawmaker speaking to FrontPageAfrica in an exclusive interview in Kakata, Margibi County on Friday, March 15, disclosed that the Chinese Embassy has since requested her to work with the Ministry of Agriculture to identify and design a specific agriculture program which would be supported by the Chinese Government.
She, however, praised the Chinese Government supports to Liberia terming China as a “true partner to Liberia.” Meanwhile, citizens from across Margibi County have begun to crowd the district office of Rep. Attoh-Wreh in a bid to get vetted and subsequently selected for onward submission to the Embassy of the Peoples’ Republic of China.
