Liberian, Israeli Leaders Commit to World Peace at Talks in Jerusalem

Jerusalem, Israel – Presidents Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia and Reuven Rivlin of Israel have called for more efforts on the part of the international community to forge world peace, security and development.

The two leaders spoke during talks on Monday when President Sirleaf paid a visit to President Rivlin at his residence in Jerusalem.

President Rivlin said it remains the desire of the Israeli people to see a resolution of the Israeli – Palestinian conflict adding: “Israel looks forward to living peacefully alongside its neighbors”.

He expressed delight in meeting his first ‘Nobel Laureate President’ and described President Sirleaf as a great leader the world remains proud of.

In response, President Sirleaf called on both sides to build bridges of peace and seek harmony through mutual respect.

The Liberian leader, who had earlier toured a high-tech farm at Kfar Shmuel outside Tel Aviv, praised Israel’s use of new and innovative scientific methods to produce maximum yielding agricultural products.

She expressed Liberia’s interest in seeking cooperation with Israel in the areas of Agriculture, Security and Information & Communications Technology (ICT).

The two leaders also expressed commitment to forging stronger ties between Liberia and Israel.

Later, President Sirleaf visited the Grove of Nations at the Jerusalem forest where she participated in a tree planting ceremony.

At the ceremony, the President again reiterated her call for global peace saying just as a tree symbolizes life, so must we all seek to give courage and surmount the many odds facing many nations.

The President then visited Yad Vashem holocaust museum where she laid a wreath in memory of the victims of the holocaust.

She ended her day with a visit to historic sites in Old Jerusalem where she toured historic sites.
