ZWEDRU – The Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) Grand Gedeh County detachment has arrested a 23-year-old Guinean national, Yusufu Keita, for allegedly attempting to acquire a Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) card.
By Paul G. Rancy, LINA Southeastern Regional Supervisor
The arrest was made on Thursday, April 27, 2023 on the Suah High School campus where one of the registration centers is located.
In an interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) on Friday, April 28, the LIS County Commander, Andy Russ Gborley, said suspect Keita has lived in Liberia for only one year.
On the morning of April 28, the suspect along with several of his compatriots had gone to register and was arrested by LIS Officer Abraham Fred, who is assigned to the county
Many Guineans who came in his defense claimed that he is in possession of a Resident Permit, a claim that was proved to be false and misleading after a search at the home of Keita.
Keita, upon the order of the LIS Commander, has been detained by the LIS while investigation continues.
The Biometric Voter Registration which kicked off in Grand Gedeh County on April 21, will close on May 11.
