Cllr. Koffa tendered in his resignation Wednesday, January 24, after 12 years of membership.
Reasons for his resignation were not stated in the letter, but Cllr. Koffa, who was recently elected as the Representative of District 1 in Grand Kru County supported President George Weah’s presidential bid in the runoff when the Liberty Party was challenging the results of the October 10, 2017 election and at the same time calling for re-election.
Speaking to FrontPageAfrica via mobile phone concerning his resignation, Cllr. Koffa said he believes it was high time to move forward in a direction that would enable him contribute meaningfully to the development of Liberia.
He said in the coming days, he would announce the next political party he would affiliate with.
However, sources closed to Cllr. Koffa hinted this paper that he is contemplating on making a full move to the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).
Liberty Party’s Chairman, Benjamin Sanvee described Koffa’s resignation as “regrettable”.
“Honestly, we regret it; we wish him well in everything. He played an important role within the party. He was a strong pillar of party,” Sanvee said.
