Man Sentenced to Life Imprisonment For Killing 18-Year-Old Girl

Buchanan, Grand Bassa County – A man believed to be in his early 30s, Momoh Sherman, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Second Judicial Circuit Court for murdering 18-year-old Siah Tamba.

Culprit Sherman was sentenced on Tuesday, December 11, 2017.

On January 4, 2017, the lifeless and mutilated body of the late Siah Tamba was discovered in the Kordua Community, Grand Bassa County.

Following Police investigation, Sherman Momoh was charged for crime of murder and forwarded to the magisterial court in Bassa.

On February 23rd, 2017, Defendent Momoh was formally indicted by the Grand Jury of the Grand Bassa County.

On November 15, 2017, trail commenced, an indictment was read to the defendant and he pleaded not guilty, thereby joining issues with the state.

The prosecution paraded four witnesses excluding two rebuttal witnesses.

The prosecution first witness, Mr. Emmanuel Lewis, in open court, explained that the body of Siah Tamba was discovered 105 feet away from Momoh Sherman’s residents.

“Early January, we discovered a body in our community and I called the Police right away; while awaiting the Police two girls came crying and pointed fingers at Momoh Sherman accusing him of being the murder, ” Lewis explained.

“After the girls pointed fingers at Momoh Sherman, I saw him escaping from the crowd at the crime scene, after being accused.”

Lewis also testified that he saw dragging mark from Momoh’s house to where the body of the late Siah Tamba was discovered.

In an interaction with the Siah’s father, Mr. James Tamba, he told FrontPage Africa that he’s disappointed in the Liberian law as Momoh was sentenced to life imprisonment after murdering his daughter.

“This human rights business in this country is bad because when someone is found guilty of killing, they should be killed publicly, too,” he stressed.

“That boy killed my daughter and he had someone called public defender to defend him. Why an evil person should be defended?” Mr. Tamba asked rhetorically.

Siah Tamba had been known to be a sex worker in Grand Bassa County and was lastly seen, on the day of death, with Momoh Sherman at an entertainment center called Garden Park in Bassa.

Friends of Siah Tamba told Police that, Momoh Sherman took their friend Siah to sleep with her for a night for which she agreed for some money but they unfortunately after two days saw the body of their friend.

The killing of Siah Tamba led to the vandalizing of a popular Night Club Garden Park on grounds that the interaction was done at that club.

Huge items were taken away from the entertainment center by unknown men alleging that the owner of the club was a part of the killing.

The county leadership, headed by Superintendent Joseph Levi Demmah, condemned the action of the citizens, for not following the legal procedure.

Sen. Jonathan Lambert Kaipay and Superintendent Joseph Levi Demmah were angry. Both had pleaded for a speedy trial into the matter.
