Lofa County – Four candidates who contested the just ended October 10 presidential and representative elections in electoral District #3 Lofa County have filed an affidavit of information with the National Elections Commission
Momo Siafa Kpoto of the Liberty Party, Albert Ballah of the CLP, James A. Cooper, independent candidate and Korva M. Jorbor of the United People Party alleged in their affidavit that since the announcement of the final election results on October 19, it has been difficult to find election officials (Magistrate, Assistants and hearing officer) together.
The group said they were compelled to travel to Monrovia to file their complainants because the hearing officer and other officials at the NEC lower Lofa office are often not around to affix their signatures to important documents.
Said the four men: “The [NEC] Hearing Officer decided to leave from his post, as a result, exception to the ruling could not be properly executed or appealed because it requires one of them signature especially the hearing officer.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Korva M. Jorgbor is urging Cllr. Charles W. Brumskine to reflect on the 2014 senatorial election in which Cllr. Joseph K. Jallah and others complained about election irregularities in Lofa but no one took their case serious.
Said Jorgbor: “It is not surprising to see a large number of political parties including the ruling party complaining about election irregularities simply because in this country when a small boy complains, big people don’t listen until it catches one big man before they know it is a problem to solve.”
Jorgbor said in 2014 Cllr. Joseph Jallah who contested the senatorial seat of Lofa complained about several election irregularities to the NEC.
After the Supreme Court found merit in Cllr. Jallah’s allegation, Jorgbor noted that the Court ruled for a recount.
Continue Jorgbor: “When the recount was done, the NEC deliberately repeated the same mistakes alleged in the initial complaint. Cllr. Jallah went back to the Supreme Court and people thought he was crazy. In the 2014 election, the malpractice was limited to few candidates but today that number has doubled to include LP, UP, ALP and ANC.
